Status and trends of wireless web technologies

In the last decade the separate technologies of the Internet and mobile computing have started converging with the advent of two major technologies, WAP and i-mode, that emerged and attempted to realize the vision of wireless Internet. This paper reviews the main technological, architectural and business issues related to WAP and imode. It also discusses their main assets and weaknesses as well as their current status and the trends expected to affect their market share and customer basis in the future.
